Why does God let X happen?

Sorry to disappoint you, but I honestly don’t know the answer to that question. As I’ve said before God is beyond human reckoning and understanding. But we can strive to understand God to the best of our understanding.

Let’s take a detour for a moment. Humans are multifaceted, you can look at people from different angles. Humans have a hierarchy of needs. Lower level needs must be met before higher levels ones can be met. Everyone is probably familiar with Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. I have my own view of what the human hierarchy of needs are.

We first and foremost are physical beings. We need air, food, and shelter.

Above that we are emotional beings. We feel some combination of the 7 base emotions of: mad, sad, glad, lonely, afraid, embarrassed, and guilty.

Next above that we are mental beings. Our thinking can be rational or we can get stuck in stinking thinking. There are many cognitive distortions that we can get caught in.

Humans are social beings. We need to have other people around us, and we need to love them.

Lastly humans are spiritual beings. We all have a piece of the divine within us.

The thing about these factors is that is the order we focus on them. It’s in our nature to focus first on the physical aspect, then emotional, then mental, then social, and finally spiritual.

My understanding of God is that His hierarchy is different than ours.

He focuses first and foremost on the spiritual. His focus is so different from that of humans it is difficult to understand why He allows certain things to happen. I can’t say why things happen why they happen, but I do know that God cares for and loves me. He wants what is best for me spiritually. I don’t need to know why things happen as they happen. I just need to accept the reality of the present moment and put myself into God’s hands.
